One of the last Boss Jocks on the air still playing what he wants (mostly Blues) on commercial radio is packin’ up his vinyl and riding into the Sonoma sunset after 28 years of holding down the afternoon slot on the north Bay Area’s “The Krush FM” (wine country jargon)!

He’s only on the air until Dec. 15th, so take an afternoon out of your busy Jive-assed schedule (weekdays 3-7p) and tune into the last of the great radio dinos as he walks & talks his way inexorably into the tar pit of radio history, and then starts the rest of his life of golfing and knitting.

Freeman Vines and his “Hanging Tree” guitars

An astute listener pointed us to a treasure trove of rich, original American musicians: The Music Maker Foundation which helps musicians over 55 living on less than $25,000 a year. Check ’em out and throw ’em some coffee money if you can!

One of the first nuggets we found was this beautiful woman, Precious Bryant, who has a delightful voice and plays a mean ‘Piedmont Blues’ fingerpicking-style guitar. Stay tuned to hear Precious and many others you’ll hear nowhere else but Jiveradio!

WANTED: Roy Orbison’s guitar player—IN RENO…was WHO!?

Ok, well folks, we had a lot of good guesses, but WE DO NOT KNOW who was playing guitar those nights at the Peppermill. We are looking for an EYEWITNESS who can testify to the ID of the gunslinger.

So rumor has it that when Roy Orbison and his band played Reno’s Peppermill Hotel Casino circa 1986-ish, he had a very, VERY famous guitar player in his ensemble. Do any of you Renoites remember that, and who it was?
