It’s a sweet time to support JiveRadio…and slurp!

11/21/2020

Zeke’s Butterscotch annual “Feed the Jive Bear” funding effort is ON!

Zeke’s Candy Company (makers of Uncle Zeke’s Old Fashioned Cracked Butterscotch) has been supporting JiveRadio since it gifted years of studio space to Jive’s flagship station KDUP in Cedarville, CA, over a decade ago. Zeke’s niece Sheila (an OSR founding member) makes her family’s old fashioned butterscotch every year ’round this time for decades.

This year Zeke’s is offering 25% OFF to all Jivers,
AND, they will donate $10 to JiveRadio for every order!

If you want to slurp on some of “The Best Damn Candy You Ever Slung A Lip Over” and support JiveRadio in one Swell Foop, visit zekescandy.com
Just enter: jive25 at checkout. Offer ends 12/31/20.

radio on radio?

11/13/2020

Well, here’s something that is sure to bore most of you: a radio interview with two radio people on…radio! [snore] It’s with me, ‘Jeff The Radio Guy’, and Amanda Eichstaedt (KWMR GM & Morning Host) and aired this Wednesday in Point Reyes Station, a hip little hamlet on the Cali coast near where we recently launched our little ten watter (KXCF 91.5FM) serving the oyster-centric towns of Marshall, Marconi, & Inverness. So in the off chance you want to dive into some radio talk, catch the very rare but enthralling segment HERE.

And, in case you missed it, the radio interview was precipitated by this story in the local paper, The Point Reyes Light HERE.

R.I.P.: The Prince of 4th Street (Reno, NV)

10/19/2020

Only 3 weeks after his mother Inez passed (see a few posts below), our brother from another mother and all-in-all, the best bartender we’ve ever known, Tony Stempeck died of complications from COVID today. A wit as fast as any comedian alive or dead, Tony was a flat-out kingpin. A cornerstone. We are seriously rocked by this loss.  More soon.

Here’s a vid of Tony talking about his Mom only weeks ago.

You think this COVID thing is all a hoax? Pack sand.

Our ‘Mama’ Inez Stempeck passes to the Ravioli Room in the sky

One of the most important & loved women in our world slid away to the other side this morning. More soon. We’re tied up crying  a lot and drinking a little more. Oh, and for those of you in outer orbits, Inez was a longtime Reno centerpiece of her own society.

Mo’ on “Lo”

07/24/2020

There’s literally VOLUMES of materials on this man, the Chief Mentor and DNA donor to Jiveradio. Here’s a recent story that will just barely scratch the itch of what some of us are feeling: https://reason.com/2020/07/23/the-death-of-a-radio-pioneer/

If you can find the time/interest, please do read about this man who has left his mark on many hundreds of people working tirelessly on ‘this side’ of US radio.

The world’s one mighty “Lo” short.

R.I.P.Lorenzo ‘Lo’ Milam

There were two men walking the earth more responsible for the being of Jiveradio than anyone else, and now there’s only one. Chief among those two was Lorenzo Wilson Milam, who reportedly died July 19th at his home in Oaxaxca, Mexico.

Lorenzo (‘Lo’ to some) fathered a gaggle of early ‘underground’ radio stations, some of which are still on the air today, KBOO Portland (OR) being an example of Lo’s idea of free-form, anti-estab radio.

He was also a writer and English Professor among other endeavors. His last book (above) is a great read and a classic look into Lo’s mind and perception of the world from his lifelong perch on crutches & wheelchairs. He says about the title: “If you don’t understand the word walkies, you probably are one.”

Lo changed our world in many ways, all good. His body is finally freed and his spirit plays on in the universe… and specifically on Jiveradio.

PS- The other man is thankfully still walking the earth around South Africa somewhere.
