it’s the clip….and actually, at 23 minutes, it’s much more than a clip….that everybody is talking about.  the new segment of James Corden’s Car Pool Karaoke done with Paul Mac in Liverpool.  yes, they sing Penny Lane while driving on Penny Lane.  and all kinds of other fun stuff.  if you haven’t seen it, just goog it up and enjoy the sentiments.  plenty of folks report tears of joy with this one!

and let us note……on June 20th, Paulie turned 76.  and he’s still looking and sounding pretty darn good.  a testament to his lifelong vegetarianism?  and another Rock God who turned 76 on 6-20-18……none other than Brian Wilson.  how about that?  two of our greatest songwriter/bassists, born on that last day of spring a long time ago.

one more note from another giant of music.  Paul Simon: The Life, written by long time L.A. Times critic Robert Hilburn, is now out and available.

in the west, there are three birds that are known for singing during the night, and often especially on the full moon.  These are the yellow-breasted chat, the sage thrasher, and the mockingbird.  all are terrific songsters who, when they’re in the mood, love to show off their stuff.

In the next couple of nights, you just may hear one of these guys cut loose.  if so…..lucky you!  (on the night of tuesday the 26th, true to form, the local mockingbird here in the ‘hood went ALL NIGHT with his singing. an amazing performance. this bird started at 11, burned right up until dawn. and then…..he sang some more. he’s obviously feelin’ good about summer!)

(for all us old gaffers who remember ole Diz…..who used to call the Game of the Week on CBS every saturday afternoon with Pee Wee Reese.  back in the day when there was exactly ONE, count it one baseball game per week on tv…..usually from Yankee Stadium! one of Dizzy’s trademark lines–“As you seen on your screen”)
