Giving the Jive Way

11/27/2020

The Corona family in front of what’s left of their home of 17 years.

While JiveRadio keeps the music pumping largely off of the generosity of you our dear listeners, from time to time we like to hip you to stories from our orbits that grab our hearts. This is the story of the Corona family of Talent, Oregon. The mom, Jocksana, was recently highlighted on PBS-TV’s “Brief But Spectacular” which is how we heard their story.

While there are thousands of sad stories from the 2020 wildfire season, The Almeda Fire was a particularly nasty piece of work in that it swept through miles of low-income, mostly Hispanic neighborhoods, right through the lowlands along the I-5 corridor between Ashland and Medford. These people are the backs that support every aspect of the rich lives of those in the highlands.

Jocksana, a Dreamer, has been a tireless community activist and supporter of myriad immigrant outreach organizations and now she has lost her home of 17 years, yet she continues to help those around her. 90 out of 100 homes in her ‘hood were destroyed in mere hours. Many hundreds of these people are now domestic refugees. Jocksana tells me the local school district Phoenix-Talent Schools Fire Relief Fund is doing a great job of getting support to the families with the most real needs.

While I had to almost pry it out of her, friends setup the Corona Family GoFundMe site. Even though at this writing it shows their ‘goal has been met’, there’s no one better to pass on her full cup than this brave woman. The need is tremendous. She and her family are a credit to our country.

It’s a sweet time to support JiveRadio…and slurp!

11/21/2020

Zeke’s Butterscotch annual “Feed the Jive Bear” funding effort is ON!

Zeke’s Candy Company (makers of Uncle Zeke’s Old Fashioned Cracked Butterscotch) has been supporting JiveRadio since it gifted years of studio space to Jive’s flagship station KDUP in Cedarville, CA, over a decade ago. Zeke’s niece Sheila (an OSR founding member) makes her family’s old fashioned butterscotch every year ’round this time for decades.

This year Zeke’s is offering 25% OFF to all Jivers,
AND, they will donate $10 to JiveRadio for every order!

If you want to slurp on some of “The Best Damn Candy You Ever Slung A Lip Over” and support JiveRadio in one Swell Foop, visit zekescandy.com
Just enter: jive25 at checkout. Offer ends 12/31/20.

radio on radio?

11/13/2020

Well, here’s something that is sure to bore most of you: a radio interview with two radio people on…radio! [snore] It’s with me, ‘Jeff The Radio Guy’, and Amanda Eichstaedt (KWMR GM & Morning Host) and aired this Wednesday in Point Reyes Station, a hip little hamlet on the Cali coast near where we recently launched our little ten watter (KXCF 91.5FM) serving the oyster-centric towns of Marshall, Marconi, & Inverness. So in the off chance you want to dive into some radio talk, catch the very rare but enthralling segment HERE.

And, in case you missed it, the radio interview was precipitated by this story in the local paper, The Point Reyes Light HERE.

Marshall who?? Dillon?

11/06/2020

No…it’s Marshall, CALIFORNIA. Not a guy, but a town. [Dillon Beach is just up the road though.] A small town for sure, but better oysters are not found anywhere. In any case, the mighty JiveRadio network has expanded its massive footprint to cover Marshall and even the west shore of Tomales Bay which includes the original Bohemian enclave of Inverness on 91.5FM. You can stream it by clicking on the link under the KXCF station listing to the right.

Oh, and here’s a recent piece in the local paper: https://www.ptreyeslight.com/article/niche-radio-station-launches-marshall
