Larry Jon Wilson was one of those musicians that had a mountain of respect amongst his peers but barely broke into the public sphere. Not so here at Jiveradio. We play every lick of Larry Jon we can get our hands on. While doing another dive into his biography I noticed he was featured in the opening of a 1976 documentary with a great roster of some of those very peers; Rodney Crowell, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, David Allan Coe, Steve Earle, and others. The 90-minute movie/documentary is a bit disjointed, but the first few minutes of Larry Jon in the studio laying down his “Ohoopee River Bottomland” was worth the four bucks for the rental alone. Also some precious clips of Townes at his most charming, a couple of good ones from Guy Clark and Rodney, and a notable clip from Charlie Daniels, pre- “Devil Went Down to Georgia” fame.
